Updated and re-issued - 1st August 2022

The retail price of diesel fuel in Fiji has again increased as of the 1st of August 2022 to an unprecedented price of FJ$3.61 per litre, a 16% increase month on month and an 83% increase compared to when our current rates were set and issued mid-last year. As a result of these record high fuel prices, selected South Sea Cruises services and products remain subject to the fuel surcharges stated below.

The fuel surcharge(s) implemented in June 2022, and which remains applicable from the 1st of August 2022 and until further notice are:

  • Resort Connections customers travelling to all Mamanuca Islands - $20 per adult / $10 per child (5-15 years) for each one-way sector.
  • Resort Connections customers travelling to all Yasawa Island Resorts (including Vomo) - $25 per adult / $15 child (5-15 years) for each one-way sector.
  • Awesome Adventures Fiji Packages or Pass customers - $25 per adult.
  • Day Cruise/Trip customers travelling with us on any Yasawa Islands products - $25 per adult / $15 child.
  • Day Cruise/Trip customers travelling to Castaway Island, Malolo Island, Beachcomber Island, Mana Island and aboard the Mamanuca Explorer, or Combo Cruises - $20 per adult / $10 per child (5-15 years)

Customers travelling with us to Malamala Beach Club, and to South Sea Island on the Full Day, Half Day or Finding Nemo products are currently exempt from paying the fuel surcharge due to the shorter travel distances. Our South Sea Sailing and South Sea Snorkelling products are also exempt from the fuel surcharge as their reliance on fuel to operate is minimal.

Customers travelling with us from Port Denarau will be asked to pay the applicable fuel surcharge for all future sectors booked whilst at check-in. Customers who are only travelling with us on an inbound sector only from their island resort will be asked to pay the fuel surcharge upon boarding our vessels and before they return to Port Denarau. Customers can choose to either pay the fuel surcharge via cash, international debit card, or with a credit card, noting that international cards do attract a 3% admin fee.

In implementing the fuel surcharge, we’d like to thank our customers for their understanding of our need to recover a percentage of these unprecedented fuel costs. We also ask that our Terms & Conditions are noted as follows “South Sea Cruises reserves the right to alter prices, apply a fuel surcharge, cancel departures, arrange alternative transport, and vary itineraries and services if necessary.”

Lastly, South Sea Cruises are committed to reviewing the fuel surcharge monthly, and we will only continue to implement the fuel surcharge as the price of fuel in Fiji justifies us in doing so. For those that aren’t aware, the price of fuel in Fiji is set by the Fijian Competition & Consumer Commission (FCCC) to take effect on the first day of each month and is based on a range of factors globally. Whilst some countries are seeing the price of fuel again decrease, the FCCC stated in a release on the 28th of July 2022 that “the fuel price in Fiji is impacted by movement in the Means of Platts Singapore (MOPS) market, international freight rates and foreign exchange rates. The increase in August 2022 local fuel prices is due to unfavourable movements in international market prices and freight & are further impacted by the strengthening of the US dollar (USD) against the Fijian dollar (FJD).
