    MANDATORY FUEL SURCHARGE
APPLICABLE FOR ALL RESORT TRANSFERS & SELECTED DAY TRIPS

MANDATORY FUEL SURCHARGE IN EFFECT
4th OF MAY 2026

Bula,

South Sea Cruises Group (SSCG) has updated the mandatory fuel surcharge first introduced in April 2026 due to a further increase in Fiji’s fuel prices, effective from the 1st of May 2026. The updated fuel surcharge is applicable for customers travelling on resort transfer services as well as selected day trips from the 4th of May 2026. The fuel surcharge remains in place until further notice.

Why is the mandatory fuel surcharge in place?

Due to a significant rise in global oil prices, the price of diesel in Fiji has increased by approximately 75% in the past two months alone. This increase has not only driven fuel prices to near record highs but has also resulted in a sharp cost increase across many supplier items, including the likes of food & beverage.

SSCG also takes this opportunity to reiterate that our current resort transfer and day trip rates were set in mid-2025 and could not factor in the current increase in fuel prices. SSCG therefore reserves the right to implement a mandatory fuel surcharge as and when fuel prices increase beyond sustainable levels.

The mandatory fuel surcharge rates (on a per-person basis), effective for travel from the 4th of May 2026 and until further notice, are as follows:

Payment Information

  • Customers travelling on applicable products and services from Port Denarau will be asked to pay the mandatory fuel surcharge for all future sectors prior to travel either online before their departure or at check-in prior to the boarding pass(es) being issued.
  • Customers who are only travelling on an inbound resort transfer from their island resort will be asked to pay the fuel surcharge either online prior to departure or upon boarding our vessels and before they return to Port Denarau.
  • Payment is available via international debit or credit card, noting that international cards do attract a 2.5% – 3% admin fee.

SSCG would like to thank the trade, our industry partners, and our customers alike for understanding the need to recover these increased fuel costs. We also ask that our Terms & Conditions be noted as follows:

South Sea Cruises reserves the right to alter prices, apply a fuel surcharge, cancel departures, arrange alternative transport, and vary itineraries and services if necessary.”

SSCG is committed to reviewing the mandatory fuel surcharge each month and will do so again on the 1st of June 2026. Until such time as the review takes place and is further communicated, the surcharges within this advisory remain applicable until further notice.

Lastly, and for those who aren’t already aware, Fiji’s fuel prices are set by the Fijian Competition & Consumer Commission (FCCC) and are only ever amended on the first day of each month. The price of fuel in Fiji is based on a range of factors globally, but most noticeably by movement in the Means of Platts Singapore (MOPS) oil market, the availability of fuel from foreign suppliers, international freight rates, and foreign exchange rates. Fiji’s fuel prices are often 1-2 months behind fuel prices in other global markets such as Australia, New Zealand, and North America, and hence cannot be compared with countries that adjust their fuel prices on an almost daily basis.

All fuel surcharges stated are in FJD and include applicable Government taxes.

Malamala Beach Club - kayaks
  • One of the best experiences I've had in a long time. The island was beautiful, super friendly staff always ready to help. Snorkeling and kayak equipment were complimentary. The food was great, and the infinity pool was something I'd never experienced. Highly recommended!
